Winter riding FAQ

It’s really cold out! Do you teach lessons over the winter?

YES, we do still ride and teach lessons throughout the winter! Lessons are canceled when:

  • Weather and/or footing conditions are unsafe for horses and riders
  • When the high temperature of the day is 25 degrees Fahrenheit or under.

Always check and confirm that your lesson is canceled due to the cold or weather conditions by texting/calling Chauntel at 518-578-2392.

Training rides or open ride may still go on as planned if it is under 25 degrees F.

Can I volunteer to help out at the barn over the winter?

Sure thing! We appreciate all the help we can get when it’s cold. You can sign up to volunteer on the Vagaro schedule, or call/text 518-578-2392 if you’re unsure of how to do that. Please make sure you have your ride established with drop off and pick up times.

Due to COVID-19 concerns we will only be taking one volunteer at a time until further notice.

What are your coronavirus policies for the winter season?

  • Immediately sign in when you arrive and sign out when you leave. If you have the Vagaro app on your phone, you can check in yourself or your child on the app.
  • Masks are required and are NOT optional while in the main barn. They may be removed when you are outside and can maintain social distancing.
  • At this time we are not providing riding helmets. You must have your own ASTM-SEI approved equestrian use helmet that is less than 3 years old and correctly fitted to your head.
  • The water in the office has been shut off due to freezing temperatures, but please make use of the hand sanitizer on the sink.
  • Please schedule in extra time to clean your tack after you ride – saddle, bridle and reins.
  • Only students or volunteers with specific tasks assigned are allowed on the premises. If you are not riding or volunteering, we ask that you stay in the car.
